Shameless self promotion: On February 12th, despite the rain and the wind, and traffic at a standstill in Bristol
between 80 and 100 people turned up at Foyles Book Store in Cabot Circus for the official launch of BRIGHTLING.
IT was a tremendous evening as you can see from my huge grin:
I did a question and answer session with the witty and wonderful Amanda Mitchison, journalist and writer whose new book CROG is out this summer and then did a signing session.
Two of my sons provided live jazz music, Theo on the sax and Laurie on keyboard. The amazing canapes were provided by Papadeli and all disappeared swiftly, washed down with gallons of fizz.
I had had huge doubts about having a book launch (my first, for my 25th book!), but I was so pleased in the end that I had. The marvellous Husband did a vast amount of organising and invitation sending, and it does help to have one of those H things or W things around to take the pressure off.
Also the Events Manager at Foyles, one Robb Norton was calmness personified. When we were stuck in a traffic jam, the roads were awash with rain, my publisher had called to say they couldn’t get out of London and my books still hadn’t arrived Robb just said not to worry. “It’ll be wonderful, darling.” What a treasure!
